Message grease then connect the connector. In fact look into all connectors for corrosion and do the same especially the coolant temp sensor, injectors, throttle position sensor.

Also not effecting your 5000 rpm issue but relates to a proper running engine and often overlooked is the coolant thermostat that could be faulty and not maintaining the correct water temp, this messes up the signal to the ECU. If coolant to cold the ECU will interpret that as still in warm up mode.
